Description

"City Sunrise" is a pretty little ballad in the contemporary style, written for "beginning" big bands that are at the "very easy" level. Overall, the piece should be played in a legato style. While the instrumentation is for standard big band, it is also designed to be played by groups with horn sections as small as 2 altos, 1 tenor, 2 trumpets, and 1 trombone.

While this was written especially for young bands, I did my best to make it beautiful and sophisticated. After playing through these easier pieces to make the MP3 recordings for your reference, my own band expressed that they want to play some of these "easy" pieces sometime in concert. So I think you won't find this to be "kiddie" fare, while at the same time, it has very consistent rhythms, repeated phrases, and the lead trumpet only goes up to a written F.

The solo is in the 2nd trumpet part, but honestly, you could have most anyone solo on this.  I've included a written "solo" if the improvisor wants a little something to jump off from. And, while there are chord changes in the rhythm section parts, there are also written piano and guitar voicings, as well as written out bass lines if your players need it.
