Description

"Swing Street" is a medium-easy, Basie-style swing chart that I wrote for a movie I scored not long after moving to New York. This arrangement was originally published by Kendor Music in 1990 and it is now re-released here. It has solo space for tenor 1 and a short piano solo, but you could easily add solos if you wish.

For all these easy-band pieces, the instrumentation is typical big band: 5 saxes with no doubles, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 4 rhythm, but all charts can be played with as few as 3 saxes (alto, alto, tenor), 2 trumpets and 1 trombone. All rhythm parts are completely written out, but also have chord changes, so your rhythm section can try coming up with their own fills and comping. There are no woodwind doubles, and the improvised solos are written out with chord changes, so beginning improvisers may rely on the written lines provided or they may give their own improvised solo a try.

I've included a short streamed video for any directors looking for a few rehearsal tips.
